Ralph Salimpour, M.D., D.C.H., F.A.A.P., has practiced medicine for close to 60 years on three continents, dedicating his life to children and their care. Currently a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, he is the founder of the Salimpour Pediatrics Medical Group. Dr. Salimpour's clinical practice remains a referral center for many of the most clinically-complex and scientifically-challenging neonates and children in the region.
Dr. Salimpour is a native of Iran and received his medical degree from the Shiraz University School of Medicine. He then completed his residency and fellowship in England at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and the Duchess of York Hospital for Babies. He received his diploma in Child Health from England's Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Dr. Salimpour's research in the areas of neonatal tetanus, malnutrition and rickets led him to establish and direct Her Royal Highness' Research Institute of Child Health in Iran. His work on the basic mechanism and clinical manifestations of these diseases includes the largest-ever published series on both tetanus and rickets. He has written and edited several books, including Tetanus and The Child in Health and Disease. In addition, he patient images have been published in the American Academy of Pediatrics' Red Book Atlas of Pediatric Infectious Disease and Archives of Diseases in Childhood. Many of his patient images will be appearing in his newest book, The Photographic Atlas of Pediatric Diagnosis and Disorders, published in July 2013 by Lippincott, Williams and Wilkins. He is also the author of the autobiographical book, Silent River, Empty Night: Diary of a Pediatrician in Iran, which was published in 2007.
Earning many accolades over his career, Dr. Salimpour was most recently awarded the Independent Physician Leadership Award for 2012 by the Los Angeles County Medical Association. He was additionally the only practicing physician to receive the UCLA School of Public Health's Leaders of Today, Leaders of Tomorrow Award. He has personally received numerous public commendations and awards of recognition from a variety of sources, including The Congressional Record, The Office of the Governor of the State of California, the Office of the Mayor of the City of Los Angeles and many more.
Dr. Salimpour lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Farah. They have four children, including two sons who are Pediatricians (Dr. Pejman Salimpour and Dr. Pedram Salimpour), as well as nine grandchildren.
